Rubber Ducks!
This Friday at the Port of Las Angeles customs detained
around 35000 Christmas rubber ducks. They were dressed up as Santa, reindeer,
and other well known Christmas characters. The toys were filled with too many
phthalates which is considered unsafe for children. This is not the first time
that people have found massive loads of duckies. 2500 rubber ducks were stolen
from police and in 1992 29000 ducks washed up on shore after a storm. They
floated hundreds of miles from where they went overboard. Since then they have
popped up in Alaska, Japan, and Hawaii. Because of these rubber ducks, scientists
have been able to get a better sense of ocean currents and tracking water
movements.
